Shopping in Vienna

Opening Hours
In contrast to the metropolises of neighboring countries, the opening hours of the Austrian supermarkets are very conservative. Shopping hours from Monday to Friday are typically 8:00 or 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.

All shops are closed on Sunday.

The exception are supermarkets at airports, railway stations and some souvenir shops, which offer extended shop opening hours thanks to a special regulation. As a result, they are also allowed to sell food and travel supplies (magazines, beauty articles) on Sundays and public holidays.

Locations
In the old town center around Kärntner Straße (U1, U3 Stephansplatz/ U4 Karlsplatz), Graben and Kohlmarkt (Viennas 1st district), you will find the major luxury brands, jewellers and perfumeries as well as Mango, H&M, Zara and various gift and souvenir shops.

The largest and liveliest shopping street is the Mariahilfer Straße
(U3 Museumsquartier, Neubaugasse). It is also worth a visit to the side streets in the 6th and 7th district. Hundreds of shops with fashion, jewelery and accessories lure here. The area around the Naschmarkt is also a good place for unusual souvenirs.
